Grapes Unlimited was founded and commenced operations 2002 in San Antonio, Texas by Velizar Iliev.
The company was created with only one goal, to bring the most unique and exotic fine wines from
around the globe.
Velizar Iliev, a native Bulgarian, moved to the US in 1991 and has been residing in San Antonio since
that time. He represented the United States in the Pentathlon at the 2000 Sydney Olympic Games. He
has been an athlete for over 30 years, starting at the age of 7 in Bulgaria. The last 4 years of his sports
career, 1997 to 2000, Velizar was proud to compete under the American flag and to be one of the best
American Pentathletes in history. He brought home to San Antonio a number of medals and trophies
from National and International competitions. Velizar is two times World Champion, Pan American
Games Champion and two times National Champion.
Velizar, a wine connoisseur for many years, decided to bring his native wines to the US. “We need to
introduce our country to the most unique wines from the oldest wine producing region on earth”, he
said and he did it! He got in to a new competition, different from the Olympics, but with the same
excitement.
